#183 What are the "Survival Skills" We Will Need in the Future?

I have sometimes used the term "survival skills" in the past. What do "survival skills" mean to you? And where do you think we should start?

This phrase, to me, equates to the ability to survive in the future regardless of our circumstances, and I also feel that it points to our overall human power. I don’t mean the ability to live in the wild, although I admire people who can do that!

I have felt the need for a deeper sense of "survival power" on a personal level in my own experience, and it is still ongoing.

For more details on my feelings on the need for survival skills in the modern age, please read this article as well.

I imagine there are many people who honestly don't know where to start, or don't feel the need to start in the first place.

I think it is enough to start by asking yourself what it means and why it is necessary.

Then you can decide how you want to deal with it.

Then, when life's challenges come, you will be guided by the experience you have had in facing them.

Once you are aware of the need for this, and start to face it in your own way, even if it takes a little time… you can also increase the opportunities to do so objectively as well.

For example, for me, it’s been helpful to put my thoughts and ideas first on paper.

After that, it may be good to consider receiving professional coaching or other services that you feel is a good fit for you.

I’ve noticed that in Japan especially, people are hesitant to do one-on-one coaching sessions at first, because coaching hasn’t become very mainstream. Participating in group sessions might be a great way to break the ice and start experiencing the feeling of support you can get from these.

In all the workshops I have held, I have especially valued the time the participants get to share their own experiences.

I have received comments from participants who felt that they were the only one who felt a certain way or had a particular thought, so they felt less alone - and also that they learned a lot by learning and being exposed to different perspectives.

I have recently been feeling especially strongly that we should face each other's challenges one by one and support each other to build up our "survival power.”

April is the start of the fiscal new year, and many people in Japan are in a new phase, whether that be the start of a new school year or work.

I am sure that there are many people who are excited and nervous about the future, but let's enjoy it and keep moving forward!

I wish you all a week with as many smiles as possible!
