Reflecting and Communicating
Last weekend, we held the fifth event of our “study sessions” series, on the theme of "Negotiation Skills." I learn something new every time I hold one of these events, but this time, I saw a new perspective as I shared stories from the past.
I shared several episodes from when I set up my company's second site of operations during the big 3/11 earthquake, 11 years ago.
I also shared some examples of what it was like to specifically negotiate with the hotel in Osaka and things I was aware of when signing contracts as a new tenant at an office building.
I used photos as I told the story.
This is how I do it every time, but I do all the preparation I can to see how I can best get the message across to the others and to make it a comprehensive learning experience.
I think it is also very important for the participants to be able to put it into action, rather than just absorbing information.
When I look back on my own experiences now, of course, I see a different perspective and viewpoint than I did at the time.
This leads to new ways of communicating, because I’m now able to convey the important aspects of those past experiences in a way that applies to current situations and something that could be relevant to the participants.
The workshop made me feel even more strongly the importance of always striving for improvement and growth, even if we’re using information and experiences from the past.
How are you making use of what you learned? How much of what you have learned are you implementing and practicing?
And why do you want to learn what you have learned in the first place? Try to look back again at what you’ve learned in the past, and try to communicate it as you are today. You may discover something very different.
We’re past the halfway point in May and so many people are getting sick this time of year, so let's take care of each other!
Wishing you all a week with a lot of smiles!
